Young Patriot’s Day

10 am to 4 pm
@ the  Battlefield

Activities for school-age children and families will highlight colonial life and the American Revolutionary War!

  • Revolutionary War Living Historians will demonstrate camp life and the impact of the revolution.  Kids will participate in marching and drilling and witness musket firing and cannon firing.
  •  Observe colonial life through the skills of craftspeople.
  •  Meet and listen to George and Martha Washington, Ben Franklin, and  authors of children’s historic books, featuring Trinka Hakes Noble, Wil Mara  and  Robert J. Skead!
  •  Learn about New Jersey as the Crossroads of the American Revolution by visiting information tables set up by area historic site.
  •  Take a walking tour to learn more about the Battle of Princeton and spend time in the Thomas Clarke House & Museum.

Advance Registration donations $10 per family (on field registration the day of the event will be $15).  Registered families will receive gifts for children such as a balloon, Young Patriots Day button, Princeton Battlefield, activity books, and a free raffle.  A printed map of activities and schedule and a new brochure on the Battle of Princeton will be available along with a “Commissary Tent” for souvenirs, hats, mugs, t-shirts, and flags.  There will be a food truck!

10:00  to Noon AUTHOR of Children’s Book – Wil Mara – Book sales by JaZam’s – Mr. Mara will sign books and will read from his books at 10:30

10:00 to 11:00 3RD NJ “GRAYS” REGIMENT accompanied by STEVENS ARTILLERY – Camp Life – Meet & talk with soldiers

10:15 to 10:50 BATTLEFIELD TOUR – For Young Patriots ages 8-12

10:30 GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON will read from the book, “The General’s Dog,” at the author tent

11:00 to 11:30 STEVENS ARTILLERY presentation & demonstration, followed by 3rd NJ ”Grays” musket demonstration

11:15 to 11:50 BATTLEFIELD TOUR – For Young Patriots ages 8-12

11:15 to Noon 3RD NJ “GRAYS” REGIMENT assembles for drill practice – Demonstrations include manual of arms, field maneuvering, bayonet drill, musket firing. Immediately following drill demonstration, Young Patriots will drill and learn how to march as a soldier

Noon to 2:00 AUTHOR of Children’s Book – Trinka Hakes Noble – Book sales by JaZam’s – Ms. Noble will sign books and will read from her books at 1:30

12:30 to 1:05 BATTLEFIELD TOUR –– For Young Patriots ages 8-12

1:00 to 1:30 STEVENS ARTILLERY presentation & demonstration, followed by 3rd NJ ”Grays” musket demonstration

1:15 to 1:50   BATTLEFIELD TOUR – For Young Patriots ages 8-12

2:00 to 2:35.  BATTLEFIELD TOUR – For Young Patriots ages 8-12

2:00 to 3:00   3RD NJ “GRAYS” REGIMENT assembles for drill practice – Demonstrations include manual of arms, marching in step/wheels/turns, bayonet drill, how to fire muskets

2:00 to 4:00 AUTHOR of Children’s Book – Rob Skead – Book sales by JaZam’s – Mr. Skead will sign books and will read from his books at 3:00

3:00 to 3:35. BATTLEFIELD TOUR – For Young Patriots ages 8-12

3:30 to 4:00.  Meet and talk to 3RD NJ “GRAYS” REGIMENT

Young Patriot’s Day is the second 2018 educational forum underwritten in part by a Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission grant and sponsored by NJM Insurance Group, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, The Bettie Gordon Neale Foundation and the Fred J. Brotherton Charitable Foundation.  Proceeds from Young Patriots’ Day will be used to further the mission of the Princeton Battlefield Society which includes educational activities and interpretive materials and signage.
